Has your partner ever done this to you?
Continually criticized you, called you names, shouted at you, humiliated you?
Kept you from working, taken the car keys, controlled your money, made all of the decisions?
Regularly threatened to leave or told you to leave?
Threatened to hurt you, himself, your family or friends, your pets, or to kidnap the children?
Destroyed your property, punched holes in walls, broken appliances, deliberately damaged your car?
Pointed a gun or other weapon at you?
Slapped, kicked, punched, grabbed, shoved or choked you and afterward promised never to do it again?
Demanded sex after threats or beatings?
Harassed you about who you talk to, where you go, what you do or think?
If you answered yes to some of these, you may be a victim of domestic violence. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! People every day in Brunswick County are going through the same things as you. Please call us at (910)754-5726 or 754-5856.
Verbal Abuse http://www.verbalabuse.com/indexmain.shtml Controllers use verbal abuse to subtly undermine their victim's perceptions, to manipulate them into doing what they want, to foster dependency, to isolate them from truth, from outside contact and even from their own children. They may withhold information while lying to their victim.. Controllers create confusion, emotional pain and mental anguish, while periodically "rescuing" their victim by seeming to offer the balm of love that alleviates the victim's pain drawing the victim ever closer. Controllers gain and maintain power over people while often presenting a perfect persona to the world.
